When I moved to Danville some 25+ years ago I rapidly started planting ground cover to fill out my landscaping. Big mistake. The nonnative, invasive English ivy and periwinkle took over the garden stealing precious water and forcing out other plants. Over time I learned to incorporate plants and flowers that were native to the region, water conserving and beautiful.

Northern California is home to a diverse array of native plantsm perfectly adapted to its unique climate.
Common Native Plants of Northern California:
• Shrubs: Manzanita, Ceanothus, Coyote Brush, Coffeeberry
• Flowers: California Poppy, Blue Lupine, Douglas Iris, Western Columbine
• Grasses: California Fescue, Blue Wildrye, Purple Needlegrass Landscaping with native plants not only offers beauty, but these plants also provide numerous benefits.
