Message from the Blackhawk Police Chief

This year we bid farewell to Deputy Anthony Maldonado as he retires and wish him luck in this new chapter of his life. Deputy Maldonado served the Blackhawk community for 10 years, and the Office of the Sheriff for 21 years. We are currently at full staffing of 3 officers and 1 lieutenant. This staffing level was made possible by generous donations from the Blackhawk HOA, the Blackhawk Country Club, and by the residents of Blackhawk and their passing of Measure Z which supports the funding of your police department.

Welcoming a new member to Blackhawk Police Department

Deputy David Sandy will be joining the Blackhawk Police Department in mid-January 2022. Deputy Sandy has been with the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff since April 2011. Deputy Sandy started his career at the Martinez Detention Facility and served as a Facility Training Officer. He transferred to patrol in January 2014 and while on patrol, he worked numerous assignments as a Patrol Deputy. Most recently he was assigned to Delta Station where he served the residents of East County. He has also served as a Traffic Enforcement Officer in the City of Orinda. Deputy Sandy is also an academy instructor for the Sheriff’s Office where he serves as a driving instructor, teaching safe driving to the academy and in-service officers.

Deputy Sandy enjoys barbecuing and cooking in his spare time. He also enjoys archery and firearms. Deputy Sandy has a 7-year-old son who self describes as being “obsessed” with trains. He and his son can often be found visiting various train museums and exhibits throughout Northern California, exploring the history and culture around late 1800’s and early 1900’s steam trains. Please welcome Deputy Sandy in his new assignment in the Blackhawk Police Department.
