Meet the Chadhas: A Love Story Nobody Planned

Some love stories begin with a glance across a crowded room. Ankush and Mehak Chadha’s began with a newspaper matrimonial ad—and a mutual, determined effort to make sure it went absolutely nowhere. Mehak was 21. Ankush was 24. Neither was particularly enthusiastic. Ankush quietly shortened his trip to India to avoid the meeting altogether. Mehak insisted she had no vacation days left at work. But when their families suggested a quick lunch break introduction, there was no escape. They met at a restaurant in Chandigarh—with their entire families present—and what was supposed to be formal and slightly awkward turned out to be surprisingly easy. Ankush was drawn to Mehak’s bright smile, positive energy, and how effortlessly fun she was to talk to. Mehak admired Ankush’s calm, honest, and caring nature.
But here is the part the family loves most. Mehak had arrived deliberately wearing no makeup and what she describes as “questionable” shoes—hoping Ankush would politely say no. Ankush had not bothered to get a haircut, hoping Mehak might feel the same way. And Ankush, so shy he was practically paralyzed, had been handed a literal cheat sheet of conversation questions by his brother before walking in the door. Their carefully constructed plan to not impress each other failed spectacularly. Fifteen days later, they were legally married.

The story gets even better. Mehak never actually went back to work after that lunch meeting—despite having no vacation days left, she somehow stayed away for another fifteen days. Ankush extended his trip to India. Turns out neither of them was in any hurry to say no anymore. Their first date became the stuff of family legend. Ankush had confidently informed Mehak that he only drank socially—just one glass. At a cozy Italian restaurant in Delhi, the waiter kept refilling his wine glass throughout the evening. By the time Ankush finished his third glass, Mehak reminded him of his one-glass rule. He smiled and said simply, “I am drinking in only one glass.” To this day, Mehak loves his one-liners—and jokingly reminds him that his very first promise may have been slightly creative.
Two Countries, Two Journeys, One Life Ankush was born and raised in Delhi, India, where he earned his B.Tech in Computer Science before making the move to New York to pursue an MS in Computer Science and an MBA in Finance from Stony Brook University. Mehak was born and raised in Punjab, India, where she completed her own B.Tech in Computer Science and an MBA in Marketing and Finance in New York—arriving in the United States after their marriage and building her own remarkable professional story from the ground up. The family eventually made the move from New York to California for Ankush’s career, and it was there that they found their way to Blackhawk—and to the community that would become home.
A Modern Power Couple
Ankush and Mehak Chadha are, by any measure, a modern power couple—two people for whom ambition, intellect, and family come together with remarkable grace. Ankush has built a distinguished career at the intersection of technology and finance, and today he is deeply immersed in the world of artificial intelligence, working with passion and precision to master one of the most transformative fields of our time. His approach to everything—career, family, life—reflects the same forward thinking and strategic clarity that has defined his professional journey. Mehak found her true calling in real estate and has become one of California’s most energetic and people-first realtors. Known for her warmth, drive, and ability to guide families through one of the most meaningful decisions of their lives, she has built a reputation on genuine connection. She thrives on turning complex decisions into meaningful journeys—and her clients feel that from the very
first conversation.

The Girls Who Light Up the Room Into this already vibrant household, daughters Anvi, 13, and Ayra, 10, bring boundless energy, creativity, and enough personality for the whole neighborhood. Anvi is a dedicated member of the HOX Swim Team—a name well known to anyone who has spent a summer poolside at Blackhawk. For three consecutive years she has achieved county qualifying times, pushing herself to new goals each season with the kind of quiet determination that makes coaches proud. But swimming is only part of her story. Anvi also plays violin, devours books—especially anything in the Harry Potter universe—and approaches every new challenge with genuine curiosity and drive. Ayra is, in the words of those who know her best, pure joy. Artistic and bright, she loves sketching and reading and has a natural gift for making people laugh. Her warm smile and easy hugs have a way of brightening every room she walks into—at school, with friends, and out in the community. Wherever Ayra goes, happiness tends to follow.
Active, Competitive, and Always Moving If there is one word that defines the Chadha family outside of work and school, it is active. Ankush is an endurance athlete whose commitment to pushing his limits is genuinely impressive. Last year he completed his first Half Ironman triathlon—a grueling combination of swimming, cycling, and running that demands extraordinary physical and mental fortitude.
He is already registered to do it again this year. When he is not training, Ankush channels a quieter creative energy into sketching, blending discipline with artistic expression in a way that reflects the full breadth of who he is.
Mehak has found her newest passion on the pickleball court—and she has embraced it with the same competitive spirit she brings to everything. She has already won multiple tournaments both within and outside of Blackhawk, and anyone who has seen her play knows she is not there just to have fun. She is there to win. When she is not on the court or working with clients, she is a devoted fan of Diljit Dosanjh and Shah Rukh Khan—their movies and music filling the Chadha home with the sounds and stories of the culture that shaped her.
At Home in Blackhawk
The Chadhas arrived in Blackhawk and found exactly what they were hoping for—a community that felt less like a neighborhood and more like a village. “What we love most about our neighborhood is the sense of belonging,” Mehak says. “It is more than just a place to live. It is a community where friends feel like family.” For a family that has moved across continents and built a life far from where they each began, that sense of belonging is not something they take lightly. The kindness of their neighbors, the shared celebrations, the everyday conversations that grow into real friendships—all of it has made Blackhawk feel like the place they were always heading toward. “They say it takes a village to raise a family,” Mehak reflects, “and we truly found that village here.” What started as a newspaper ad has become something quietly extraordinary. Two people from opposite corners of India who came together by reluctant accident and discovered, somewhere in the middle of it all, that they were exactly right for each other. They crossed oceans.
They built careers. They raised two remarkable daughters. They found a community that feels like home. And somewhere along the way they built exactly the life they never planned but always deserved.
